Ask me anything

Excerpt from my new children’s story “The Little Can of Beans”

Something moved on the floor, near the doorway. The boy noticed this from theĀ  corner of his eye. He turned quickly and saw a can of beans with little legs, arms, eyes and a mouth and it was hopping up and down. It had a tiny moustache but no nose. It had been opened and it’s lid stuck up at an angle and the can was dented, it’s label peeling off in places and it was stained with tomato sauce.

“Doodley-doo!” the can of beans said to no one in particular, “I’m a can of beans!” The can had a southern accent.

The boy stared at the can which was spinning around awkwardly, and stumbling while it spun.

“I’m a can of beans!” the can continued “most cans got a whole bunch of beans in ‘em, but someone opened me up and took almost all of mine!” The can stopped spinning and then steadied himself against the wall with his tiny arms. “But I still got two beans left! And I’m doin’ the best I can with only the two! Doodely-doo!”

The boy got up out of his chair, scraping the floor as he rose. The sound made the can jump and it looked at the boy directly for the first time. “Stay away from me!” it growled and then ran out of the room and clattered down the hallway.
