From La Doublure:

I’ve really been feeling Alan Parsons Project’s Eye in the Sky. The 2nd Cleaners From Venus, On Any Normal Monday, is a charming lo-fi pop pleaser. Do you like Terry Allen? I had a Rick Roberts-era Burrito Bros cd many a year ago.

Ixnay on the APP, right now, though I will check it later. CFV sound intriguing. I only know the name, not the music. I plan on picking up the Captured Tracks reissues of The Wake, maybe I’ll check that too.

You must know that 3rd Burrito’s LP, Daniel. So smooth.

Do not know Terry Allen. The country guy?

From Every Great Song Ever:

If you can’t get the Kendricks, maybe you can find Johnny Bristol’s Hang on in There Baby.

I will check that one out! Thanks.

So anyway I was out on my bike this morning and saw a record fair going on at a church. Truthfully, I can’t stand those things  but I went in anyway, looked around quick and came out with the first Crazy Horse and Pentangle LPs and an Ember/Specialty soul compilation called “Soul from the Vaults” (I love good comps) for very cheap, so my itch has been scratched (a bit, I still want those other previously mentioned records).

Thanks for the recs on recs, fellow tumblrs.

From good dogwood:

How about an early Shuggie Otis record? I know it’s borderline soul/funk, but that debut has a warm sound to it. As for the other kind…maybe some Hollies? Got that same harmony-led vibe.

Those are good suggests, for sure, but the Hollies never really released a great album (King Midas comes close, and I have it) and, though you’re right on about Shuggie, I have Inspiration Information, do I need more? What other LP by him is worth having? Freedom Flight? Maybe I will get that one.

You know a record a really got into recently? The third Flying Burrito Brothers LP. man, I love it. I think a lot of my favorite records are third efforts.

Boy, I’m glad you’ve got some free time to be able to help me with this.

Anything else? Anybody else?

Dang! Whatcha gonna go for then?

Dunno. Thinking it over. I was really in the mood for modern Australian lo-fi jangle-pop and seventies soul. Though I could go for some sort of McCartney’s Ram/Phillips’ Wolfking type classic LP as well. Modern or old, doesn’t matter, that much. Any other suggests? Anybody?

(my original question was: I really want to buy a couple of records today but the two I have in mind are not in stock at the 2 record stores nearby (Eddie Kendricks “People…” reissue and the Woollen Kits S/T LP). I don’t think anyone in town has these in!! What should I pick up instead?)

Echo & the Bunnymen “A Promise” (from Heaven Up Here 1981)

It’s decided. Tomorrow will be one of those ‘Echo & the Bunnymen all-day’ kind of days.

Date With the Rain Eddie Kendricks

guessimdumb:

Eddie Kendricks - Date With the Rain (1972)

The falsetto voice of the Temptations.  How this song was not a smash, I cannot fathom.

Love this record. My copy’s beat to hell. Happy to hear there’s a reissue scheduled.
