Paul & Linda MCartney Ram (1971)
What’s interesting about these two records is that there was a time -long ago- when very, very famous millionaires made amazing albums.

Beach Fossils - Youth
Looking forward to this LP.

In which the arrow respresents a directional influence, not a “greater than”
Sounds better than Real Estate. Can’t get with that band.
White Fence - the love between
Tim Presley is a full-time member of The Strange Boys, sings in Darker My Love, and was a musician on The Fall’s Reformation post TLC. His solo record is dece.
Not a fan of the Strange Boys. Never heard Darker My Love. The White Fence LP great though!

“So influenced by the Velvet Underground it’s better than the Velvet Underground. The precise moment when a little-known band on the edges of the rock canon supersedes the VU happens at the 1:50 mark, when suddenly the tempo changes and a guitar hook kicks in that sets the song of in a whole new direction.”
(Paul Marotta)
”Straight away, we must accept the Mirrors’ Velvets metaphor or the band withers before your eyes.”
(Julian Cope)
“We saw the Velvets at LaCave. I saw God … and realizing that I needed only 2/3 of my vast musical knowledge to play ‘Heroin’, we were off … I studied the V.U. Sub-Moronic Easy Guitar Book… From the start, we rehearsed originals along with Velvets covers… aside from loving them, we did the Velvets because they were easy.”
(Paul Klimek - Mirrors)
“Necessary.”

The downside of getting my daughter into a good school in a nice area of the city is the inevitability of having to move there so we can be within walking distance (she’ll be there for the next 6 years and taking the metro and a bus is not something you wanna do every day back and forth).
It is expensive.
We’ve found a gorgeous, larger place but the rent is hefty (tho’ great for a 3 bedroom with an office…and heated. In Vancouver it would easily go for a couple grand) and I’d be lying if it didn’t admit it’s stressing me out. K found a great job and our income has doubled, but I’m going to school now (the office is a welcome thing) and even though my place of work has been more than accommodating -absolutely amazing in fact- it’s still a record/book store part time job and this is reflected in my pay. It feels nuts to be 38 (39 soon) and be going through this but baby, it’s how things are.
This summer is gonna be a test. I need to be more resourceful than I’ve ever been previous. I’m gonna have to hone my self-discipline to a knife-edge.
All said, I’m fortunate. I’m happy here and so is my family. Things are, and will continue to be, good.
I’m looking forward to this summer. I like surprises. Sort of.
In record news: The White Fence LP on Make A Mess continues to be a killer.
In Montreal driver news: they’re still trying to kill me.
Did you remember that the Troggs presaged AC/DC and an awesome subgenre of rap music* all in one dirty semi-psych?
There’s something of the slow-up/slow-down in the first two minutes of this song that’s weirdly modern.
*is she underage/is she actually a dude?
SWEET.
You, you’re an ocean. You’re endless, vast and deep and hold secrets that will take years to discover if it is even possible to discover them all. Many people have tried to explore your depths and have perished for their efforts.
Ok, you’re a river. You flow countless miles, carving veins in the terrain. Your current is strong and you carry with you anything that is curious enough to wade in. Most drown, but some are strong enough to make it back to shore and those that do are changed for the experience.
Never mind. You’re a lake. Your surface is calm and inviting. However, because you receive the sediment and garbage of your surroundings your bottom is murky is a soft like a sponge.
Moving along, you’re a stream. You’re easily charted and provide brief amusement for someone who isn’t too demanding. You’re a momentary distraction and sometimes an annoyance if you go on too long.
So now you’re a pond. You provide a place to rest. Not much else. If you are interesting at all it’s more because of what lives in or near you than what you are. What lights on you and then flies away. You’re an afternoon and only a small portion of one at that. You can be nice to eat beside, but even that wears thin eventually.
You, you’re a puddle. You appearance is universally dreaded and, with exception of those too simple to care, you’re avoided. You make someone think “I wish I had boots”.
